Clarinet and Sax Studio
Private lessons are intended to complement and expand on the student's work in a school music program. My goal as a teacher is to help the student become the best player possible. Generally lessons are not the place to simply work on band music, but to address the individual challenges and joys of the specific instrument. Students will work on specific technical exercises as well as scales, etudes and solo works. I believe that each student's learning style and musical goals are unique and do my best to cater to those needs.
Lessons are scheduled as a regular appointment on the same day, at the same time, each week. I do understand that things come up that prevent the student from attending the regular lesson time and do my best to reschedule for another time. I require at least 24 hours notice when canceling a lesson, or you are still responsible for tuition for the missed lesson.
There are two ways to cover the student's tuition. You may pay all tuition fees up front for the month, or you may pay weekly at each lesson. If you choose to pay by the month tuition is due on the first scheduled lesson of the month. Please contact me for current tuition rates.
Practicing is incredibly important to the student's progress and success. Without practice there is no improvement. The amount and frequency of practice varies a bit by student. Generally the student should be practicing 20-60 minutes per day depending on the age and ability of the student. It is also important to have a "rest day" where there is no practicing.
Studio recitals are two of my favorite days of the year! I schedule two studio recitals per year, usually in December and June, for interested and qualified students. Performing in recitals is not required, but is strongly encouraged. It is very important for musicians to perform, and studio recitals give students the opportunity to perform in a different setting than usual. Recitals include solo pieces, small ensembles and large ensembles. Each recital ends with a clarinet choir. All students that are qualified to play are encouraged to participate in the clarinet choir. It is so much fun!
